What are the differences between a dynamic VPN and a dedicated VPN?

An IP address is something that is assigned to a user’s device when they are on the Internet. An IP address gives the user’s computer an address so that Internet traffic can be delivered. An IP address is assigned to a user by the Internet Service Provider (ISP), and the address can either be a dynamic IP address (Dynamic VPN) or a static IP address (Dedicated VPN).

Dynamic VPN

Dynamic DNS is a useful and quite popular service. It could be described as a tool for network devices (computers, routers) that will have a basic premise for future visual appearances and recommendations from the Internet (latest IP statistics), and then you can use the problem and call DNS so you can call them to use and if you can use If you want to open web servers on your local network.

A Dynamic VPN involves the assignment of a different IP address to each individual every time they connect/disconnect to the VPN connection. The Dynamic VPN feature is also known as a remote access VPN. A common deployment scenario for a Dynamic VPN is to provide VPN access to remote clients that are connected through a public network such as the Internet.

Advantages of Dynamic VPN:

  1. Reduced security risk as users is assigned a new IP address each time they log on.
  1. Reduce latency as Dynamic VPN does not use NAT.
  2. Speeds up downloads by allowing requests to access each of the devices on every port.
  3. It is a reasonable and money-saving solution.

Disadvantages of Dynamic VPN:

  1. Every time the user logs on and their IP address changes they will have to find their IP address again.
  2. The remote access is typically less secure.

Dedicated VPN

Most VPNs use shared IPs and it is not difficult to blacklist such addresses. Also, many users want an extra level of security in a more personalized and stable manner and Dedicated IPs by VPN are perfect for that.

A Dedicated IP VPN is one that uses a static IP address reserved only for your use and personal activities. In simple words, it is assigned to only a single customer. Static IPs are usually available as an add-on by providers. They tend to be a bit more expensive than shared IPs, thanks to bearing an element of exclusivity.

They provide users with a single, static unique IP address that is only for that user and secure IP for when logging into secure sites online, this IP address does not change. Having a private, dedicated VPN is particularly useful when banking, accessing secure corporate sites, or when looking on IP restricted websites as they provide personalized security.

It is also possible to have a dedicated VPN in the country of your choice so that each time you log in to that particular server you are assigned with a dedicated IP address automatically – saving you time and effort. If you need to know what your IP address is at all times then you should consider a dedicated VPN service.

Advantages of a Dedicated VPN:

  1. You will not get blocked or blacklisted on any sites as a result of other people’s illegal or dodgy actions. This is because, with a dedicated VPN the user is in control of that particular IP address, and so what other people do will not affect that user.
  2. More reliable and so are better if the user wants to host a gaming website or play on gaming devices such as XBox or PlayStation.
  3. Supports several connections simultaneously, and are not slow as Dedicated VPN do not have to differentiate traffic coming in from different devices or clients and so the delivered performance is better than with Dynamic VPN.

Disadvantages of a Dedicated VPN:

Again, as with everything in life, there are always disadvantages.

  1. More expensive than Dynamic VPN because with Dedicated VPN there is only one user and so the cost is not shared.
  2. Less anonymous than Dynamic VPN because it can be possible to link particular activity to one single user, or device. Whereas with Dynamic VPN users get increased anonymity because the IP address is shared, and therefore it is almost impossible to link activity to a user or device.

What is the best choice for you?

There are advantages and disadvantages to both Dynamic VPN and Dedicated VPN, and ultimately it all depends on what you are after, and what activities you are looking to do online.

Dedicated and shared IP VPN providers, both offer their own set of downsides and perks. Ultimately, determining the better choice involves figuring out what you need a VPN for. If you want to stay completely anonymous online and leverage better security for P2P/File sharing, then opting for shared IPs is the right way to go. No one can trace your identity back to you.

On the other hand, people who need to access banking data, unblock Video-On-Demand (that ban shared IPs), or need a seamless authentication process – going for a static IP is the best option. Although, you do have to pay for the extra costs of a unique IP address, one that is free from any sort of illegal activities or the “bad neighbor effect”.
